The project POWER CUTS brings together the energy blackouts of the 1990s in Cuba with the fashion history of power dressing in the USA in the 1970s and 1980s. Fashion is used as a medium to start a conversation about the ‚Special Period‘ in Cuba after the collapse of the Soviet Union through the personal experiences and memories. The artist explores the dichotomy of socialism and capitalism on the basis of economic competition and fashion choices.
