May 2018: As part of the exhibition "Hybrid Matter" by VISIT fellow Andreas Greiner, the innogy Foundation and the gallery DITTRICH & SCHLECHTRIEM invited to a lecture and discussion event. Hartmut Böhme gave a lecture titled "After Nature: Art in the Anthropocene".
Based on the artworks exhibited in Andreas Greiner’s HYBRID MATTER, which reflect on how humans manipulate and redesign nature through genetic engineering and speculate on the future of mankind, the concept of “Third Nature” will be discussed. What kind of forms are generated in artificial life today? How do humans intervene into the natural growth processes via synthetic biology and how does this influence the relationship of nature and culture? What is the function of art in the context of the Anthropocene?
