Ben R. Clement: Application

Ben Clement impressed the judges with his concept for a sculptural piece with the working title of ‘Application’. He will be seeking to create a new body of sculpture through the examination where emotional investment occurs in objects of technological obsolescence. To do this he will be working with scrap materials from decommissioning occurring as a part of Germany's current nuclear power phase out. Through developing upon the process of metallic electroplating, Clement will reassess what can be considered a monument in an age focused on constant technological renewal and progressive hyperbole.

Ben Clementstudied art at the Elam School of Fine Arts in Auckland, New Zealand, and at the Städelschule Contemporary Fine Arts Academy in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. His works have been displayed in various group and solo exhibitions, including at the Museum of Modern Art, Frankfurt am Main, Germany. He has also held the role of artist-in-residence at the ‘Rupert’ centre in Vilnius, Lithuania.  #VISIT2018
